REVIEW:

Believe it or not, it was actually twenty years ago today that the series premiere of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers aired and the franchise is still going strong with the current series airing on Nickelodeon. Lionsgate will be releasing the first DVD volume of the new series titled POWER RANGERS MEGAFORCE: ULTIMATE TEAM POWEr on September 3, 2013 containing the first four episodes of the 20th season.

After Admiral Malkor orders insectioid Warstar aliens to attack Earth, an ancient guardian named Gosie (sent to Earth by his mentor Zordon), along with his faithful robot Tensou, picks five unique teenagers (Troy, Noah, Emma, Gia, Jake) from Angle Grove and transforms them into Power Rangers. Now these five teens must work as team as they battle the rock beetle Scaraba, the human-abducting scientist Yuffo, the virus-spreading Virox and the super-fast Dragonflay!

The episodes on this single-disc are:

* Mega-Mission

* He Blasted Me With Science

* Going Viral

* Stranger Ranger

* Bonus Feature - "Power Rangers Morph Through 20 Years" Video

With a new cast, costumes, Power Cards, Megazords, and villains, Megaforce takes us back to Angel Grove, California with an opening theme song that is homage to the original series. The special effects have improved with each new series, which uses some scenes from the Japanese Super Sentai Series. The acting in the franchise has never been the best, but the new cast comes off a little wooden to me, especially the new Red Ranger; maybe this will change as the series moves forward with new episodes this fall, leading up the Super Megaforce second season in 2014. Overall, the episodes on the Power Rangers Megaforce: Ultimate Team Power is fast-paced and action-packed. I recommend the DVD to new and old fans alike.
