Indonesia's Blinc is a shopping loyalty program built by Grupara and InHouse VC co-founders

Indonesia will soon have another shopping loyalty program startup in the form of . What makes this particular startup different from the rest is its founding members. It's built by Aryo Ariotedjo (), Fajar Budiprasetyo (Koprol co-founder and ), as well as Christopher Satriandaru and Dimas Ario Rubianto from . With all those talents combined, what's in store for Blinc?

Blinc is dubbed a "universal loyalty program." The startup offers users two ways to use the program: physical cards or iOS and Android apps. Ariotedjo says that their main offering is the cards, and the mobile apps are just supplementary.

Gungrave [Animated Series]

This is a series I need to find time to rewatch as it has a constant dark presence over your typical quiet hero protagonist. It is similar to Berserk as far as personality and the theme it aims for. From the creators of Trigun I can see their style in some of the concept design. A worthwhile series that stands well on its own separate from Trigun.

Brandon Heat and his friend Harry are orphans on the streets surviving by thieving and other means. They soon gain the attention of high rise gangsters and gradually move up the chain of command. Throughout the series we see their friendship tested and evolve to become something neither of them truly saw coming. Betrayal is the main theme, but the series also includes survival through gaining power and the question of how long before it finally corrupts.

PN Review: Sonic Lost World (Wii U)

Sonic has had a bit of a rocky past when it comes to some of his games. There have been the good, the bad and the down right awful. I'm looking at you Sonic 2006! But along the line, Sonic Team blew us away with some good titles such as the surprisingly good Sonic Colors. They would impress us once more with the nostalgic throwback of Sonic Generations a few years later and recently, we've received Sonic Lost World. I had the chance to play this demo at E3 2013 and once more at PAX Prime and I've got to say, I was impressed and even excited to see Sonic triumph again in the gaming world.

But would his exclusive Wii U installment fair well? There were already many complaints amongst gamers saying how it was "too similar to Mario Galaxy" or how "Sonic has lost his speed". Lets not waste any time and spin-dash right into Sonic Lost World for the Wii U.

Channel Surfing: The Returned

WELCOME TO A NEW COLUMN CALLED CHANNEL SURFING, IN WHICH I SPORADICALLY LOOK AT CURRENT TV SHOWS AND TALK ABOUT THEM. THESE ARE NOT ONES THAT I CARE TO WRITE WEEKLY RECAPS FOR AND ARE INSTEAD REFLECTIONS EITHER ON THE EPISODE, THE SERIES, OR PARTICULAR MOMENTS. THIS WILL HOPEFULLY HELP TO SHARE PERSONAL OPINIONS AS WELL AS DISCOVER ENTERTAINMENT ON THE OUTER PANTHEON THAT I FEEL IS WELL WORTH CHECKING OUT, OR IN SOME CASES, SHOWS THAT ARE WEIRD ENOUGH TO TALK ABOUT, BUT SHOULD NEVER BE SEEN.IT ALMOST SEEMS TO BE CLICHE FOR A CHANNEL TO DEBUT A "HORROR" SERIES ON HALLOWEEN NIGHT. ONE OF THE FEW THAT HAD BOOSTED RATINGS FROM THIS GIMMICK WAS THE WALKING DEAD, WHICH HAD THE FORTUNATE GIFT OF HAVING THE HOLIDAY FALL ON A SUNDAY: A PRIME TIME FOR MAJOR SHOWS. IT HAS BECOME A CULTURAL PHENOMENON, EVEN SPINNING OFF INTO ITS OWN TALK SHOW. STILL, THE SUCCESS OF THE AMC SHOW SEEMS LIKE A ONCE IN A BLUE MOON TYPE OF LUCK THAT CONTINUES TO BAFFLE ME YEAR TO YEAR, AS CHRONICLED IN MY ZOMBIES CAN BE FUN SERIES.IN GENERAL, I DON'T GET THE APPEAL OF ZOMBIES, WHICH FEEL TOO LOWBROW AND ANTI-CLIMACTIC AS A PLOT DEVICE. WHEN I DISCOVERED A NEW SHOW FROM FRANCE CALLED THE RETURNED, I WAS SIMULTANEOUSLY INTRIGUED, BUT ALSO WORRIED THAT ZOMBIES WOULD JUST EQUIVALENT TO REALLY STUPID KILLS AND NO EMOTIONAL DEPTH.EVEN THE CHOICE TO FOLLOW THE WALKING DEAD PATTERN OF OPENING UP ON HALLOWEEN FELT WAY TOO COPYCAT. FOOTAGE UNSEEN, THE ONLY READ DRAW INITIALLY THAT IT WAS A FOREIGN SERIES THAT SOMEHOW FINALLY MADE ITS WAYS OVERSEAS.LIKE A LOT OF THESE SHOWS, THE BIGGEST PUSH CAME FROM LISTENING TO FIREWALL AND ICEBERG PODCAST. MORE THAN ANY OTHER SOURCE, IT IS WHAT GIVES ME INSPIRATION FOR TAKING CHANCES WITH THE CHANNEL SURFING COLUMNS. THROUGH GENTLE COAXING, I GAVE IN AND FINALLY GAVE IT A SHOT OUT OF INTEREST THAT THIS WAS NOT TO BE THE SAME ZOMBIES FROM THE GEORGE A. ROMERO MOLD, BUT ONE OF A MORE PSYCHOLOGICAL SCALE THAT RELIED ON PLOT MORE THAN VISUAL SCARES. THE DEAL WAS SEALED WHEN IT WAS ANNOUNCED THAT IT WAS AIRING ON THE SUNDANCE CHANNEL, WHICH I FEEL HAS QUICKLY BECOME THE NEW HOME FOR PRESTIGE PROGRAMMING, INCLUDING TOP OF THE LAKE AND RECTIFY. MAYBE IT WILL TAKE SOME EFFORT TO EVEN REACH THE TRACK RECORD OF AMC, BUT IF THIS RECORD HOLDS UP, THE SUNDANCE CHANNEL MAY BE QUICKLY USURPING THE CONVERSATION.

THE APPEAL OF THE RETURNED HAS VERY LITTLE TO DO WITH THE FACT THAT IT IS A ZOMBIE SHOW. IN FACT, THE TRADITIONAL ROMERO MODEL IS SCRAPPED HERE. THERE IS NO FLESH-EATING DEAD PEOPLE AROUND THE CORNER READY TO SCOOP UP A PATRON. THE "ZOMBIES" IN QUESTION COME MORE FROM A PLACE OF REALISM, CHOOSING TO CREATE CHARACTERS THAT UPON DEATH, HAVE THEIR PHYSICAL PRESENCE AND MENTAL CAPACITY REMAIN SIMILAR, BUT NOT RECALL THE ORIGINS OF THEIR DEATHS. IN FACT, THE GENERAL UNDERSTANDING OF ZOMBIE DOESN'T SEEM TO THE SAME AS THE ONES EXECUTED IN THIS SHOW.THE FIRST EPISODE REVOLVES AROUND CAMILLE (ALMA ARNAL), WHO YEARS AFTER DYING IN A BUS ACCIDENT COMES BACK TO HER SEE HER FAMILY UNFAZED BY THE WHOLE DEBACLE. AT MOST, SHE IS CURIOUS ON WHY EVERYONE IS ACTING STRANGE. SLOWLY THROUGH HER ENTRANCE, WE MEET HER WHOLE FAMILY, WHO ALL BEGIN BEING CALLED UPON TO WITNESS THIS BIZARRE EVENT. CAMILLE, WHO IS LIVING DEAD, IS TOO INNOCENT TO EAT HUMANS AND INSTEAD CHOOSES TO MAKE SANDWICHES AND TAKE BATHS. BESIDES HER DECAYING BODY, SHE IS NORMAL. SHE IS ONE OF SEVERAL LIVING DEAD WHO BEGIN POPPING UP IN THIS SMALL, DESERTED TOWN WHERE NOT MUCH SEEMS TO HAPPEN. THERE'S AN ELDERLY MAN (GREGORY GADEBOIS) WHO ALSO HAS A DEAD RELATIVE RETURN THAT HAUNTS HIM TO THE POINT THAT HE BURNS THE HOUSE DOWN AND COMMITS SUICIDE ON A DAM. THE SCARES OF THIS EPISODE DON'T ACTUALLY DRAW FROM MANY ACTS OF VIOLENCE. WHILE THE UNIVERSE OF THE RETURNED IS TOO YOUNG TO FEEL AN EMOTIONAL ATTACHMENT TO A SINGULAR FIGURE, THE FEAR COMES FROM SOMETHING RATHER GENIUS. THE LIVING DEAD AREN'T VIOLENT, BUT IT MAKES NO SENSE WHY THEY ARE ALL COMING BACK NOW. WHAT IS THE SUPERNATURAL EVENT THAT DRIVES THE EPIDEMIC FORWARD? WHAT DO THESE ZOMBIES WANT?NONE OF THIS IS MADE CLEAR. IN FACT, MAJORITY OF THE FIRST EPISODE SERVES AS AN INTRODUCTION TO THE UNIVERSE. CAMILLE'S FAMILY IS PLENTY INTERESTING, INCLUDING HER SISTER ADELE (CLOTILDE HESME) BEING INTRODUCED TAKING SHOTS OF ALCOHOL AT A PUB AND AVOIDING HER MOTHER'S (ANNE CONSIGNY) PHONE CALLS. THERE'S A DYSFUNCTION AND RELATIVITY THAT IS UNDERSTOOD AMONG ALL OF THE CHARACTERS THAT IT SUBSTITUTES FOR ANY NEED FOR TYPICAL ZOMBIE FARE. THIS IS AN EPISODE ALL ABOUT MECHANICS, AND THEY ALL WORK AMAZINGLY WELL. THIS MOSTLY WORKS AS A ZOMBIE SHOW BECAUSE THERE IS A POTENTIAL END GAME. THIS IS A SUPERNATURAL OCCURRENCE THAT MAY HAVE AN EASY SOLUTION. EVEN IF IT REMAINS UNRESOLVED FOR FUTURE SEASONS, THIS IS MORE OF A SHOW GEARED AROUND CHARACTER STUDY THAN SHOCK AND GORE. SERVING AS A MYSTERY, I GET THE IMPRESSION THAT THROUGH THE PROGRESSION OF THE SERIES, WE WILL SLOWLY UNDERSTAND THE SOCIOLOGICAL MINDSET OF THIS TOWN AS WELL AS SLOWLY UNRAVEL THE REASONS BEHIND THESE EVENTS. AS THE ENDING OF THE EPISODE SUGGESTS, THERE IS ALSO A MYSTERIOUS MURDERER AFOOT, WHICH AT VERY LEAST GIVES THE RETURNED AN ADVANTAGE TO EXPLORE HORROR BEYOND THE LIVING DEAD. ALONG WITH A CHILLING, INTENSE SOUNDTRACK BY MOGWAI, THE RETURNED IS A SATISFYING TAKE ON HORROR IN GENERAL SIMPLY BECAUSE IT DOESN'T GO FOR THE QUICK SATISFACTION. THE STORY MOVES SLOWLY, BUT THE REVEALS ONLY WORK WITH BACK STORY THAT PARLAYS AT VARIOUS INTERVALS. IN FACT, WE DON'T UNDERSTAND THE ENTIRE STORY BEHIND THE BUS CRASH THAT BEGINS THE SERIES UNTIL THE FINAL MOMENTS OF THE EPISODE WHEN A CREEPY, QUIET KID (SWANN NAMBOTIN) STANDS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET AND DIVERTS THE TRAFFIC OVER THE HILLSIDE. THERE'S MORE TO IT, THOUGH IT IS LARGELY BECAUSE OF CAMILLE'S FAMILY LIFE THAT THE PAYOFF WORKS. EVEN THOUGH I HAVE TROUBLE CLASSIFYING THIS AS A ZOMBIE SHOW, I THINK IT IS MOSTLY BECAUSE THE AMERICAN CONCEPT OF IT IS VERY DIFFERENT. HOWEVER, THE ONE REVELATION THAT COMES ALONG WITH THE RETURNED IS THAT THIS FEELS LIKE A STORY ABOUT THE LIVING DEAD DONE CORRECTLY. THERE'S ACTUAL MYSTERY NOT ONLY AROUND THE SUDDEN PHENOMENON, BUT ALSO AROUND HOW IT ALL RELATES TO FAMILIES, RELATIONSHIPS, AND THE TOWN AS A WHOLE. IT IS RATHER BLEAK AT POINTS, BUT THE MYSTERY IS THE DRIVING FORCE THAT HOPEFULLY WILL CONTINUE TO BE EXPLORED AND EVENTUALLY RESOLVED IN A SATISFYING MANNER. AS OF THE FIRST EPISODE, THIS APPEARS TO FINALLY BE THE DRIVING FORCE BEHIND NOT ONLY MAKING ZOMBIES INTO A COMPELLING NARRATIVE, BUT ALSO INTO SOMETHING OF HIGHER ART.

Top 100: '80s Horror! (#10-1)

Finally, we arrive at the top ten and the very best, in my humble opinion, of '80s horror. I have to admit to feeling a little relieved that this project is over. I feel like a kid on Halloween night, half-asleep in his Batman costume, surrounded by candy wrappers, his belly swollen and his breathing labored.

I'm actually eating a mini Butterfinger as I type this. When kids love Trick 'r Treating but don't particularly care for candy, dad wins.

Top 5 Ways James Wan Has Mastered Scary Films

Don't know who James Wan is? Well you certainly ought to change that.

Responsible for films such as Insidious, The Conjuring, and the Saw franchise, James Wan has been shaping our nightmares for years now. The 36-year-old Chinese Australian filmmaker is overlooked far more than he should be. Many people know his films and yet they don't know the man behind them.

Nishiki kage-e

Yesterday I was lucky enough to be able to attend the talk and screening of nishiki kage-e() at the Japan Foundation. Apparently there was a waiting list of over 100 people! So you can imagine how privileged I felt. This was also the first time nishiki kage-e was ever shown in London, with performers coming all the way from group in Osaka, Japan.

But before the main performance, we were lucky enough to also see what is known to be the oldest found Japanese animation (produced in 1917), presented by Matsumoto sensei. It was a very short and simple animation of a sailor writing(katsudo shashin), meaning "moving picture", in kanji on a blackboard. This may not seem like much, but back then of course this was quite amazing.

The Four Horror Movies of The Apocalypse

Always a fan of an interesting blogathon, I found out about this one being hosted by "" thanks to The Gore Report over at "". This one is especially cool seeing how it requires participants to pick four movies to represent each of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Despite the title, the rules of this blogathon do allow for movies outside of the horror genre to be chosen, which is something I have chosen to do here, while at the same time only choosing films I would write about here. So allow me to now present the movies representing the horsemen for me.

How to Mooch Off of Your Friends (Without Them Ever Knowing)

We all like free stuff, but it often comes at a hidden cost: . If you stop asking companies for handouts and mooch off of your friends, you can get even better benefits with practically no sacrifice.

Some of our friends have more than us and others have less. Hopefully we all help each other out a little bit in various ways, regardless of our means, because that's what friends do. Some people like to take advantage of good will, however, and offer more than they receive. We see them as mooches and often avoid their company. A good mooch, however, knows how to keep it a secret. She or he understands the subtle difference between constantly asking for things and making the "trade" seem more even. In this post, we'll take a close look at how you can get stuff from your friends for free without them ever feeling used. In essence, we'll dissect the art of the mooch.

All-New Jeep Compass

Most people think of Jeeps as tough off-road vehicles that love to get muddy, but when the Compass debuted in 2007, it wasn't like other Jeeps. It didn't look rugged and it didn't even like dirt. Instead, it was a car-based design built for the majority of small-SUV buyers who wanted a fuel-efficient runabout that was also easy to drive around the city. Four-wheel drive was available, of course, but it was a single-speed system - enough to get you through a muddy track and that's about it. As you can imagine, off-road purists didn't much care for the Compass, which they regarded as the exact opposite to all things Jeep. However, the latest model has revised styling and new found capabilities which edge the Compass closer to the "real Jeep" status. So what new this time round? Well the All-New Jeep Compass comes with a refreshed exterior and interior design plus unsurpassed capability in the compact-SUV segment.

When Failure Equals Success: What I Wish I Would've Known as a New Mom

When I first found out I was going to be a mom I read all the books and knew exactly how often to feed, at what age to expect milestones, and could swaddle like a boss.Naturally I was never going to allow thumb sucking, my kids would be potty trained at two, they would nap until preschool, always self sooth at bed time, I would know what information to give them when, and, of course, they would always listen to us because we were such wise parents.

And then real life hit. Those days came where and I felt more a massive failure than shred of success. Add to it others' commentary and emotional drowning threatens.

Five older anime series for beginners.

Since I will soon be reviewing anime and manga for a popular website, I decided to do a quick post about five older series to introduce to fans of newer anime, or even those who are just looking for an introduction series.I made a point to choose each from a different genre so that comparing them to one another would be difficult.I also made sure that they were at least a decade old.I would have gone for much older series, however I just don't see a newbie watching Galaxy Express 999 without falling asleep, or Ranma 1/2 without feeling very confused. No offense to either of those mentioned. They each have merit in either artistic presentation or pure nostalgia depending on who you ask. However, what I am looking to talk about are accessible series with tangible story lines.I want to talk about relatable protagonists and villains that are recognizable as something more than a throwback from a saturday morning in the 80's.

Here goes.

The Five Best Made-for-TV Horror Movies

What's Halloween without a post on classic fright films? This year, we are paying homage to the best horror films made specifically for television. And since this is a classic movie blog, all of our choices were broadcast no later than the 1980s. Hey, that's the classic era for made-for-TV movies anyway!

1. - A rare network TV-movie excursion into visual horror, Gargoyles opens with a prologue that explains the ancient creatures are the devil's offspring and are reborn every 600 years. They exist to "battle against man to gain dominion of the earth." This theme closely parallels horror writer H.P. Lovecraft's mythos, in which creatures known as The Old Ones lurk in a parallel world, waiting to regain control of this world from mankind. Set in Mexico, Gargoyles is a lively, entertaining film with solid performances by Cornel Wilde, Bernie Casey (as the lead gargoyle), Scott Glenn, and Grayson Hall (Dark Shadows, The Night of the Iguana).

UN: US says it doesn't, and won't, spy on UN

UNITED NATIONS (AP) -- The United Nations said Wednesday it has received assurances from the U.S. government that U.N. communications networks "are not and will not be monitored" by American intelligence agencies. But chief U.N. spokesman Martin Nesirky would not comment on whether the world body had been monitored in the past, as reported recently by the German magazine Der Spiegel.

Nesirky said the United Nations had been in contact with Washington about the reports that surfaced two months ago and has received a U.S. guarantee of no current or future eavesdropping.

2013 World Series Wrap: Baseball's model team

Posted: Thursday, October 31, 2013, 12:43 AM

A year ago, the post-beer-and-fried-chicken Red Sox, a roster which bore only a passing resemblance to the one which just won the 2013 World Series, spent October about as far away from the postseason as a team can get having gone 69-93. It wasn't Houston Astros 'Abandon hope all ye who enter here' bad, but the road back wasn't exactly paved in well-lit yellow brick. A year later, having not only turned that record inside-out (and then some) and gone on to win the World Series, there's a strong argument to be made that the Red Sox could simply take the 2014 season off having nothing left to play for, nothing else to prove.

Chapter 7: Pumpkin Ale Tasting

Good Afternoon Ladies & Gentlemen, Friday was the big dayyesthe day that we were finally able to TRY OUR PUMPKIN ALE FOR THE FIRST TIME, fully carbonated & ready for drinkingand it certainly did not disappoint. That night we were invited to a Halloween party by one of Dizzy's coworkersand after driving around the neighborhood trying to find a parking spot for about a half-hour, we decided to just get some grub (Subway) and head home to watch moviesand of course, drink our beer.

Basically it tastes like LIQUID PUMPKIN PIEonly obviously not as sweetand I loves me some pumpkin pieso this stuff was dangerous. Because it was aged the full six weeks as well, it had a better aftertaste than our original Red Ale tasting two weeks agoso yeah, it was pretty fantastic. I highly recommend that you find a way to try it. Summary

Pet Are Part of the Family

One thing pet owners have to remember that pets are affected by any change. Sometimes it's good change like bringing home your new baby or a bad changing saying goodbye to a furry friend. All animals react differently to any change. As you know we had to . It was very emotional to me to let him go. I could just imagine what he went through after I left him. We have 4 cats but one furry friend we forgot was really close to Harvey. The other three I think were glad that the dog was gone. But our cat, Maddie, got into a sort of depression I would say. We didn't notice it until we were back from our trip. She lost a lot of weight. Normally she is social and walks around. When we arrived we founded her in one of our drawers. Don't know how she managed to get there. But she has a bad habit to opening doors. So this didn't really surprise me that she did this.

This our adorable cat, Maddie!

Paradise Lost...and Found

Follow your bliss and the universe will open doors where there were only walls.- Joseph Campbell

A few months ago as I was writing one of my blog posts Mike made a comment about the name of my blog, "Yogi Girl in Paradise."He said, "Do you really think you are in paradise here?"Now as my husband says quite often in his sermons, you have to take his question within context.I think that day he had been stuck in terrible traffic on U.S. Highway 19(a.k.a. the most poorly designed road in the U.S - seriously!) and probably did not make it to the beach that day as well. You see, Florida has its moments just like any other place in the world. There are things down here that drive us crazy, like traffic and miles of strip malls, but then we make it to the beach and all that disappears.

Great Problems for High School

Sometimes I come across problems that make me wish I was teaching High School again.I mean I don't want to grade papers or go to staff meetings or get up every morning at 5am like I used to; but the idea of watching a bright class of kids thinking about a problem that is just different enough to make them use some of the skills they have other than their great memory was always exciting, and I guess I'll never get over it.

Ever once in awhile I come across a problem that makes me want to pop them on a HS class, but since I'm retired and too lazy to go back to work full time, I thought I would share a couple of the recent ones with the folks still out there working the front lines in case you may have missed them with all the papers to grade and such.

Exclusive Interview With Jerry Ferrara On Last Vegas

It takes some actors years of doing commercials, guest appearances on television and bit parts in movies before getting spotted on the street. Jerry Ferrara, on the other hand, quickly found his breakout role on HBO's Entourage when he was just 24. On the hit cable comedy, Ferrara played Turtle, the foul-mouthed and fast-talking, if undeniably loyal friend of actor Vincent Chase (played by Adrian Grenier).

After eight seasons of Entourage wrapped in 2011, Ferrara began popping up in numerous films. His newest role is in the upcoming , in which he plays Todd, a cocky womanizer who makes the mistake of messing with a veteran wolfpack, which includes the iron knuckles of Robert De Niro's Paddy, who quickly puts Todd in his place by having him do countless hours of labour for his friend Billy's (Michael Douglas) bachelor party.

TOP STORIES

The Medium Is Apparently the Message

At the dawn of the CD era, a not-very-funny joke about Charles Manson made the rounds: after he heard the Beatles' White Album on CD, he realized it wasn't telling him to start a race war by murdering people. The joke got at something significant about the vastly improved fidelity of the CD, though: it could change the way we experience certain musical performances.

This apparently works in the opposite direction, too.

Rising Starlet: Leah Costello

LEAH COSTELLO has a distinctive face and soulful eyes that will provoke a sustained fascination to be her avid follower. So often we've seen emerging young actresses on TV shows and LEAH is one with the potential to be potently enchanting. Some have pointed to her attractiveness as incandescent, enlivening the space she inhabits be it a room or on the screen. She is guest-starring on "Masters Of Sex" as Louise, a gal who volunteers for the orgasm test conducted by Dr. William Masters and his secretary Virginia Johnson. Fans of the show will be pleased with LEAH's arresting beauty as well as her mature performance which included a scene of her character reaching climax through self-pleasuring. Wonder if she'll get a recurring role as LEAH can be memorably captivating for the long haul.

She is slated to appear in two indie thrillers namely "Apollyon" (now that's a unique title!) and "The Treason". While these films are of a much darker tone, her capabilities to handle the plots are top-notch having graduated top of her class from University of Miami's Theater Program. These are exciting times for the very beautiful LEAH and she's a very good bet to fashion herself as an entertainer we can't stop cherishing.

Just for Halloween: Zombies: Monsters of the People!

Have we not all at one time or another felt like a zombie? We work ourselves into a mindless blob of humanity.

My last blog was on vampires, so I thought I would give equal to zombies. It is true that in the American media that zombies regularly appear, especially in so-called "troubled times." For example, Night of the Living Dead (1968) came along during the Vietnam era. Zombies are an unfinished portrait of what scares us, and they reflect the crisis of the moment.

Being A Sports Fan

Being a sports fan matters to me.I've been thinking about why, and I decided that the reasons are only partly due to the actual sport.Hear me out.I remembered attending a beautiful wedding last summer just outside of Manhattan, only because it was the weekend Adam Scott blew the 2012 British Open.I remembered the one-year anniversary weekend of my perfect bachelor party because it was the weekend of the 2012 PGA Championship.I know exactly when I took a golf trip with one of my best friends in Atlanta this past Spring because it was Sweet 16/Elite 8 weekend. It's true that I wouldn't have forgotten these experiences if I didn't have the sporting event to remind me.But the sporting event, in combination with what was happening in my life, created a richer memory. Some of my experiences have been alone (more on that below), but usually not.And not all of my memories are good. After going through the exercise of thinking about my top sports memories, what I figured out is that, for me, being a sports fan is an anchor for significant memories. It takes me back to hanging out with my Dad and my brother, or friends that are often closer than family to me.It reminds me of first feeling the exhilaration of victory or the depression of defeat, and sharing those feelings. It reminds me of being a kid and the house I grew up in.It reminds me that I enjoy witnessing greatness.Below, I will let each experience/game expound. And I want to hear from others about why being a sports fan matters.

**One note about how I wrote this post.A lot of what I want to convey is how I recall the events.I'm doing minimal research to make sure I have the basics right, but I could have some of the details wrong. But that's how I remember it happening. So here are my top five sports memories, in descending order from 5 to 1.

Supreme Court says Government's Poundland scheme is 'legally flawed'

The Government's 'back-to-work' scheme - where jobseekers were packed off to work for Poundland - has been ruled as 'legally flawed' as a case taken to the Supreme Court today.

Iain Duncan Smith, the Work and Pensions Secretary, didn't manage to overturn an earlier ruling that said regulations that backed up the schemes were invalid. Presumably, no-one could get away from the notion that, should Poundland have enough work for jobseekers to do, then surely, they are able to pay for it.

Sad Tea, Moment Trailers

A quick trailer post today to cover two films released on Halloween in Japan, thus reducing the load of trailers on Saturday. The films look like counter-programming for a weekend packed with big Hollywood/US (2 Guns, Behind the Candelabra) and Japanese releases (the latest SPEC film). Both are made by colleges connected to the and were exhibited at the Tokyo International Film Festival. They are full feature films and not shorts and they come with experienced directors helming the projects.

Battle brewing over Obama nominations to crucial DC appeals court

There is a battle brewing over President Obama's three nominees to fill open seats on the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals.

The court is critical for a number of reasons, including the fact that it is the primary source of appeals related to federal agencies and their regulations. From the IRS to the EPA, the court is often charged with deciding just how far the powers of federal agencies do, or don't, reach.

Halloween Viewing Options

If you're anything like me, when Halloween rolls around you don't wanna put on a slutty costume and get drunk at a party at the house of someone you barely know but you're there because your best friend insists that gay guys throw the best Halloween parties, or at least that's what Sex and the City told her. No, if you're like me you want to sit home maybe handing out candy to neighborhood children and watch scary movies alone or with family or a few friends and a pizza.

But maybe you've grown tired of watching The Exorcist, Halloween, The Omen, Psycho, and It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown year after year. Isn't it time for something else? Well, here are some more out-of-the-box suggestions that I like for Halloween viewing. This post will focus just on TV episodes or specials; I may do a follow-up post with movies tomorrow. Television shows are great though because you can marathon a bunch of episodes or try different things as your mood changes.

Anime DVD Review: Inuyasha Fifth Season Box Set

The Inuyasha Fifth Season Box Set includes five DVDs that contain 27 episodes of the series. The first three discs contain five episodes, the fourth disc contains six episodes, and the fifth disc includes six episodes and the special features.

This season of Inuyasha advances the story much more than season four did. This season also sees some major character development for Inuyasha, especially in the final two episodes in this DVD box set. The fifth season also introduced the story arc with the Band of Seven; this was a decent story arc, which ultimately leads up to the return of Naraku. The final two episodes in this set can be intense, but they're very important episodes for the overall story. I would have to say that the final three episodes on the fifth disc are my favorite episodes in this box set.

Model Robyn Lawley speaks out on 'thigh gap' criticism from pro-Ana groups

I am a huge fan of Robyn Lawley, a size 10 model who is considered by the industry to be "plus-sized." She's absolutely gorgeous and very smart to boot. Robyn believes in celebrating all body types and is not a fan of the "" brigade at the exclusion of other body types. These are pictures of Robyn in the November issue of GQ Australia. There are a few more skintastic shots that we can't post here, but you can google them.

In the meantime, Robyn has written a new essay in the Daily Beast about a photo of herself that has been floating around on Facebook. It's a lovely photo that is being ripped to shreds by pro-ana groups. Why? Because Robyn doesn't have enough of a "thigh gap." Now Robyn is giving her thoughts on the subject:

The Returned: TV Review

Canal Plus, Photographer: Rob Payne

"The Returned" on Sundance Channel

Hungry Again

Vampires are on my mind. The funny thing is this often is the case when I'm unemployed. Feeling lost and alone, I settled down to watch the most depressing vampire movie I know, The Hunger. Miriam Blaylock, an unaging vampire, has made her way through history by taking lovers with the promise of eternal life. As she makes her lovers vampires, they survive centuries as young people, but then suddenly age and die within days. Terribly artistic (how could it not be with David Bowie as the male lead?), the film has a very heavy atmosphere and a calculating coldness as Miriam promises her lovers that they will live forever, knowing that once the aging begins, their decaying corpses will continue to live, weak, hungry, and wanting to die. I did say that it was depressing, right? The vampire, besides feeding off the essence of others, is concerned with eternal life. Religious symbols do not affect Blaylock and her ilk--in fact, they wear knives hidden within ankhs to stab their victims. The ankh, the Egyptian sign of eternal life, is the means of death. The only way to live forever is to feed off others.

Like many of those who pay attention to society, I have been fascinated by the enduring power of the vampire. When I was a child watching Dark Shadows on TV after school, I supposed vampires were things kids were interested in--the adults I knew had other things on their minds. As my generation grew, however, the vampire grew along with us. We had Interview with a Vampire, Lost Boys, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Blade, Underworld, the Twilight series, I am Legend, Van Helsing, Priest, the Vampire Diaries, and on and on and on. Why are we so fascinated with a mythological creature? The vampire is profoundly religious and deeply symbolic. Evolution endows us all with a will to survive, the desire, if you will, of eternal life. The vampire is the symbol of that hope with no constraints. We are taught, and some of us even believe, that other people have the same rights as we do. The vampire's urges, however, overwhelm even personal conviction and we are all potential victims.

audio, how to die spectacularly etc.

celebrating (and sharing) the abundance: part one of life in a motorhome

We live in wine country. I didn't really know how incredible that was or would be until we arrived. I am not in any way a wine connoisseur, but I really love the beauty of the vines.

Oh man, the vineyards get me every time.

I may have been known to pull over a time or two just to walk up the vines and touch the grapes. We arrived October 1st, just in time for harvest. The colors were breathtaking and the fruit was heavy and ready.

Here goes.

We're not slaves, we're peasants. A Response to Tim Kreider's "Slaves of the Internet, Unite."

A few days back, Tim Kreider wrote a rather interesting piece for the New York Times titled, "" Therein, Mr. Kreider argues that the internet created a new definition of the word "content" to the extent that artists, be they literary of visual, are little more than content generators whose product is reduced to "stuff to stick between banner ads." The essay ends with a call to action for all writers to stop giving away the fruits of their labours for free.

Do it for your colleagues, your fellow artists, because if we all consistently say no they might, eventually, take the hint. It shouldn't be professionally or socially acceptable -- it isn't right -- for people to tell us, over and over, that our vocation is worthless.

Emile Hirsch To Play Late Funnyman John Belushi in Untitled Biopic

It seems like we are often force-fed biopics of individuals whose lives aren't really destined for a big screen treatment. If you really think about it, there are maybe a handful that are really worth seeing. One individual who lived an amazing, yet short life was the great John Belushi. His legend has been embraced by several generations long after his death, and it seems high time that his story be told.

And so it is, as there will be a John Belushi biopic hitting the big screen soon. After many years in development, the film has picked up traction with the casting of young actor Emile Hirsch as the late funnyman.Todd Phillips, the man responsible for such hits as THE HANGOVER and OLD SCHOOL, is slated to direct the project, and it was reported last week that the director had met with Hirsch and WORKAHOLICS star Adam Devine about the role.Apparently Joaquin Phoenix was also considered, but it appears he never had any concrete talks with Phillips. There is also a report claiming that actor Nelson Franklin, who has appeared frequently on Fox's THE NEW GIRL, is in contention to play Belushi's BLUES BROTHERS co-star and close friend, Dan Aykroyd.

"Zuckerberg Files" collects everything Facebook CEO has ever said in public

Facebook famously has a lot of our data, but now one Wisconsin academic is trying to turn the tables on CEO Mark Zuckerberg, just a little bit.

Poverty, parenting linked to child brain development [ H0us3 ]

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Children who grow up in poor families may have smaller brains than their more well-off peers, says a new study. But good parenting may help overcome that disadvantage.

Researchers found that kids who grew up poor tended to have smaller hippocampus and amygdala volumes. Those areas of the brain are partly responsible for regulating memory and emotions.

Bribery charges swirl around Uganda's oil sector

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has reserved for himself the right to have the final say before any deals are signed with oil companies, saying that policy is to ensure the country's interests are always protected. But some critics say the president's close involvement is unhelpful to a country that needs to focus on building credible, transparent institutions to manage its oil wealth whether or not Museveni is around.

In a session of parliament that sparked public uproar, an independent lawmaker fingered three government ministers he believed had been bribed by foreign oil companies seeking contracts with Uganda's government. The charges, denied by the three officials, forced lawmakers across the political spectrum to order an investigation that many here hoped would be swift and decisive.

Fall-ing On The Bike

Living in California, we're blessed with an abundance of amazing riding weather. Our winters are only moderately cold and wet and it's pretty rare that you're not able to squeeze at least 1-2 rides a week in during even the wettest months.

The downside to such a moderate climate is that we don't really have the traditional four seasons and the dramatic changes between them that other areas enjoy. I've heard from people that grew up in the east that this rates as a negative for us, but to be honest, I'm totally fine with it.

Hi everyone! Happy Monday! :)

It's a pretty festive start of the week for me, thank you for the long weekend. Were you guys able to start the week by practicing your right to vote? I know this might sound irresponsible, but I didn't vote for anyone today. I didn't have enough grounds of who to vote, plus I found out that neither of the candidates are actually sincere on what they are doing (one of them is vote buying, the other has been a barangay official for the longest time and has been known to explicitly take the budget for our place for his own good). Anyway, I hope that you guys have a better system in your place.

Exploring Santa Cruz

Beat and I enjoyed a quiet weekend, working on a few projects and being lazy tapering for Frog Hollow. My friend Jan was in town for the weekend, and was interested in venturing out for a mellow ride on Saturday. Jan moved to Seattle recently and has been enduring autumn in the Pacific Northwest, so he was stoked about clear sky and temperatures in the 70s. He told us about the horrors of bike commuting in the cold rain, and I was quick to commiserate. "I lived in Juneau for five years. They get three times the annual precipitation of Seattle." Jan related his trials and I joined in with back-in-my-day war stories about showing up at the office covered face to foot in road grit and rigid, refrozen sheets of ice, which is what happens when it's 32.1 degrees and you ride a bike through three inches of slush, even with fenders. I'd have to stand outside the building until I peeled off the top two drenched layers, shivering with full-on convulsions as my extremities went numb, and, Sonny, you don't know the true indignity of bike commuting until you've commuted through a winter in Juneau.

But it's true that weather toughness is like muscle mass -- it steadily gets softer and weaker the longer one lives in a friendly climate. Now I'm Californian through and through, and I don't even blink when it's 70 and sunny in late October. Yawn.

2008 Jill would not be amused.

Gingitsune - 03: Not blogging this episode because nothing much really happened, but still an adorable little episode to dream away to. I stand by my case that that fox is adorable. The turtle was a one-off character, but he did illustrate the concept of time really well, which is quite important for our white friend's development.

Golden Time - 03: I was surprised by the weird cult that appeared out of nowhere, but I guess that weird obsessions are a theme of this series. However, what happened afterwards was quite interesting: two characters just sat down and had quite a long talk for anime standards, in which they got to know each other much better. Peril of the Short Story 2013

I didn't get as many short stories read during R.I.P. as I intended. Strangely, my attention span has been craving longer works.

I really meant to finish Shadow Show. I've been reading this anthology on and off since last year. R.I.P. 2012 included Shadow Show stories! I think I burnt out on anthologies earlier in the year and once again Shadow Show has become a box of very rich chocolates.

Favorites: October Happenings

This week I passed the 50-day mark to graduation (only 46 more days!) and it is still surreal to me that, come January, I won't load up my Eddie Bauer backpack (that has lasted since junior year of high school) and go to school. October has been a crazy month, here are a few pictures I have to document it. Keep in mind, though, I only remember to take pictures when nothing exciting is happening.

This is Bam, my cousins' dog that I watch from time-to-time. I'm not a small-dog lover, but he is just so cute. He was being a bit dramatic, it rained all day and he was depressed. I was sending a picture of this dress to someone (they wanted to know what I was wearing to a group presentation) and Reece hopped up to be in a picture. This was probably the last time (!) I will dogsit for her so I'm glad we have one last picture. These are my dogs, just re-enacting from The Lion King. Well, here's another awkward selfie of me wearing the fox sweater. You don't want to know how many times people came up to me and asked "What does the fox say?" My response is a lot like .My copy of North and South finally came in from the UK. That's right, I was not satisfied with the American covers and waited the two weeks for this to arrive. Worth it. Also: I finally broke down and painted my nails a fall color. This one is Butter London's British Racing Green. I made a mug cake () and it was horrible. It smelled like fried egg and I just couldn't. I had to burn a candle to get rid of the smell.I've spent some time with the pups this month , aren't they just the cutest things? Also, just in case you were wondering who is my mother's favorite...look at the left-hand side of this picture. That bear sitting beside the lamp is Cam's stuffed animal Wembley. She doesn't even try to hide it.Another day, another book and nail color. This is Butter London's La Moss, which I really wouldn't recommend. It's okay, but oxblood is such a commonplace color now, you can find cheaper alternatives.

Alive & Kicking

It's a rare event that we write about a book that's only just been published, but when the subject is nostalgia itself, then it would be churlish not to, especially given you can count the number of footy nostalgia books on one hand.

Alive & Kicking is the product of KiCK Magazine's Editorand bills itself as the "Ultimate Book of 90s Football Nostalgia". The question I can already sense on most people's lips is surely, "The 90s? Wasn't that last week?", which to people of a certain age (including myself) it certainly feels like it. In reality, it started 23 years ago and when it did, the Premier League was 2 years away from being born...even Italia 90 was yet to happen!

'How I Met Your Mother' season 9, episode 7 preview: Neil Patrick Harris and an air vent

Who wants to see Barney Stinson try to become a secret agent? This is what you are likely going to see Monday nightsort of. This is a guy who also apparently thinks that Bruce Willis is the bad guy in "Die Hard," so it's hard to be completely impressed with his "legendary" decision to try and sneak through an air vent in order to complete a mission for Marshall on the same weekend as his wedding.

This video is almost a direct continuation to the one that we posted yesterday, which was really all about Marshall asking Barney for a favor, no questions asked, to sneak in to Lily's room a delete an incriminating text message regarding his status as a judge. If he does this, it ensures that a problem for his is alleviated for the time being. This isn't really a foolproof plan, though, given that Daphne (Sherri Shepherd) could always just send Lily another text message. Then again, we imagine that Marshall is really not thinking that far ahead.

Beauty in Disguise

This pie is an aesthetic disaster boasting thrown together pastry, an oozing filling and less than perfect crimping. All this, however, can be immediately disregarded upon initial tasting. Melt in the mouth pastry encasesperfectly slow cooked beef, nutty mushrooms and a thick indulgent sauce to form this rustic creation; it's the ultimate comfort food.

For the pastry: 400g plain flour, 250g butter (cubed and cold), 1 egg beaten, 2 tbsp cold water.

Siege Spots

TODAY, DEAR READERS, I am going to talk to you about my favorite game in my PS2 library. Yes, I love it even more than Mister Mosquito.

THE GAME I SPEAK OF IS A HIDDEN GEM IN ITS OWN RIGHT. It's gained a cult following over the past few years, but is still relatively unknown. I might go so far as to say it's a legend; a beautiful, beautiful legend. Ladies and gentlemen, for the unaware, feast your eyes on Chaos Wars.

FAIRY TAIL CHAPTER 357 REVIEW: TEMPEST

This is the portion of a arc where i say Fairy tail is on a roll and this could be the series' best and most explosive arc yet. Now most times i would warn of being too hasty, this being fairy after all; yet the tone of this arc feels somewhat different, giving me hope that we might finally get an arc worth the fairy tail hype, not seen since the tower of heaven arc (which messed things up by reviving Erza; though Hiro was in an unfortunate situation because i would have lost interest if Erza had exited from the story).

The Philippines' Landslide

Mass wasting is defined as the down shift bm of rock and regolith near the Earths surface mainly out-of-pocket to the shove of gravity. The Star Online: World Updates

GOMA, Democratic Republic of Congo (Reuters) - The Congolese army said it made significant advances against eastern rebel forces in a second day of fierce fighting on Saturday and called on neighbouring Rwanda to help disarm the insurgents.

The army clashed with M23 rebels on Friday for the first time in two months after peace talks in Uganda broke down this week. Rwanda accused the army of firing a shell into its territory, sparking fears its military might intervene.

Canon EOS 70D

The Canon EOS 70D ($1,199 direct, body only) is the first traditional D-SLR we've seen with an on-chip phase detect autofocus system that doesn't have to hand off to contrast detection in order to confirm focus. That gives it the ability to deliver quick, smooth autofocus when recording video, but there's still some room for improvement in dim lighting. The 20-megapixel camera is a solid option for Canon shooters looking to move up from a Rebel body, but don't want to go full-frame. Despite its video prowess, it doesn't manage to oust our Editors' Choice for midrange D-SLRs, the Nikon D7100. The Nikon may not focus as quickly in Live View mode as the Canon, but we liked it slightly better overall.

DESIGN AND FEATURES

Animals in fiction interview by This is our Fauna

Mine S biler is so elaborate in depicting in utmost detail the magical, occasionally dark and always so enigmatic animal world while she -as if that wasn't enough- works on fabric as canvas for her extremely impressive drawing that her Istanbul-based brandnever ceases to amaze us. But rest assured that there is nothing in common between these hand-made pieces and that popular trend in ordinary animal figures. An animal admirer for life, the young artist believes in the power of creativity, and while working on a Berlin-Istanbul-Paris triangle, she is sure to be much talked about her brand established in 2011 in near future. Need proof? Well, here you go. How did your fascination towards animals start at the first place?I grew up in a house with a garden full of animals in Istanbul. There is this huge Rumeli Fortress with a gloomy atmosphere with a beautiful nature. There has always been animals around; like hedgehogs, weasels, a donkey, chickens, turtles, owls, stray dogs, different kinds of birds, cats and dogs of course. In our garden we still have them. I've always liked spending time with animals, bugs and plants; having an actual interaction. I remember falling asleep while hugging my dog in times when I felt bad. We even have a pet cemetery -you can say that I was quite into Stephen King as a teenager. My mom bought us these very well illustrated children's books and ever since, it has always amazed me that there is another world going on there, in the forest, between the bushes, eating berries. It's a world you cannot share with your friends, it's a world you cannot live in. There, you'll meet no one from the real world, more like a dream, you can tell no one, you can invite no one and you cannot get anyone out from there. In a way you are alone. So I find myself going back to these memories. Which animal fascinates you most? The first realistic answer would be cat -the animal with whom I've spent most time with. The bound between a cat and human can be freakishly strong. But then the most astonishing animal is horse. Since childhood, I keep living with their imaginary existence. Riding a horse, that very moment, fills you with a fantastic feeling, similar to falling in love crazily or feeling the highest point of freedom with the best hug. Once I came across with a lizard who never left my side through the whole winter -that was special. Dolphins definitely are powerful and sensitive creatures. I am sure they would rule the world in the best possible way. As a child, I saw a dead dolphin on the beach once, which was a powerful image. The eyes of foxes are amazing. Wolfs are also one of my favorites; dark, sometimes unpleasant yet very emotional and loving, which I somehow relate to. Snails are always lovely, you should check out how they mate. And hedgehogs -if you pick up a hedgehog carefully without scaring it, they will lean their spines back and their faces will appear. They have very soft hair and a long cute nose with button eyes. There's also crows, owls and swallows; sorry for the long list, but naming merely one is just impossible for me. All of the Animals in Fiction pieces are exclusively handmade which means that they are produced in limited quantity. Do you have plans to enlarge your business?Of course; this is my dream. It's the only thing in life that I hold on to. When I decided not to work in the corporate world, or to say sell my time and effort for basically nothing; I decided to unite two things in life that has always kept me busy and excited: the inner world of animals and to create & manufacture things. Now, I don't want to limit myself with t-shirts. I started from scratch but back then, I couldn't get the fund necessary to create more. The freedom to produce will always be in the hand of the big companies. They want you to buy and to become dependent on them only. They are stealing our freedom of productivity, our right to exist on our own, the originality where in fact a person can create most of the things we need and enjoy in life. They are all handmade for now, but I will use different techniques such as printing, as there is a lot of demand making it impossible for me to produce them all by myself. So you have a new project about this, being revealed very soon perhaps? As most of you know, those who has ideas but cannot go further with them due to the lack of funds use crowdfunding websites, Kickstarter or Projemefon, its Turkish equivalent. So I'm starting a project on a crowdfunding site as this is the only way to get the materials and tools I need. As soon as the promo video editing is done by my friend, the project will be online for everyone to have a look. How do you interpret the current dynamics of the creative scene in Turkey?I think it's sill very much about money and status. This puts a huge barrier in front of originality and sincerity of creativity. The ones who have the privilege to go & live in the art hubs and get their work displayed back here obviously receive overrated attention and somehow stand in the way of the potential of true creativity. The more intellectual and creative art scene is, the more introverted it becomes. It almost feels like as if they are playing only for their own team. Not to mention that artists are separated with bold and rather unnecessary lines. They have been labeled, preserved and cannot get out of their zone. Many people seek for the courage to exist on their own, and the end result is a failure. If these groups somehow could be more homogenous, the creative platforms would be more varied and diversified. Still, freedom in Turkey is always enabled by social roles, constantly breaking our courage in bigger scenes and in daily life.

Blake Shelton Condemns Divorce Rumors

Getting the point across to fans and critics alike that his marriage is in perfect condition, "Boys 'Round Here" singer hopped on Twitter to announce he and his wife, are doing just fine.

The 37-year-old responded to a wide array of rumors and accusations, tweeting, "I just read back to back NEW stories that @mirandalambert and I are having a baby, divorcing, cheating and feuding with @cher. Must be true!" He found one particularly laughable comment suggesting that he and 29-year-old Miranda were in the midst of a $40 million divorce.

Here goes.

'The Simpsons' star Marcia Wallace dead at 70; see original season 25 plan for Edna Krabappel

Tragedy has struck the world of "" this weekend, as Marcia Wallace, best known for voicing the character of Edna Krabappel on the long-running animated show, has passed away at age 70. According to , she had been sick for several months before her passing, and executive producer Al Jean also told the website that she has been unable to do voice work recently due to her declining health. A former breast cancer survivor, she had worked with a number of organizations over the years to raise awareness of and battle the disease.

What we can tell you now related to the show is that Edna was not the character that Jean is at some point over the next two seasons. One of the benefits of doing a cartoon is that there are a number of ways in which to write a character off the show, and it is more likely now that this role will just be "retired" rather than to make some sort of gruesome death over someone who is no longer living.

Agents of SHIELD 1/6

There is so much that can be said about Marvel's new show Agents of SHIELD. And so here I am to say all I can. This will be a series of blogs that spans six posts, assuming Wikipedia is correct in that there will be a total of 22 episodes. The format will simply be a synopses and review of four episodes at a time, so this will end up being posted about once a month (unless they keep making us wait two weeks between episodes like they are right now).

Episode One (9.24.13): The pilot. Or, as I like to call it "Coulson Lives!" Yes, that is correct, Coulson survived his fight in The Avengers and lived to die another day. And now we get to sit back and watch as he developsand scratch our heads and wonder how the hell he survived. The most cohesive explanation (thanks internet) seems to be that he faked his death as a form of motivation for The Avengers to get their shit done, and then was put into hiding (sent on a long vacation) until his next assignment - which he is currently fulfilling with SHIELD. In this first episode, we learn about the hacktivist group Rising Tide, and a key player in the group, Skye, who lives in her van. We also learn of Project Centipede, which takes humans with special abilities (like Mike Peterson in this episode who seemed to have incredible, hulk like strength - though he doesn't turn green) and enhances those abilities to make them super human. We later learn that these human experiments being done by Project Centipede are exploding (literally, in a ball of fire) due to a glitch in their planning. The SHIELD team essentially abducts Skye for questioning after she tries to talk to Mike, and unsuccessfully tries to convince him to let her help him. Then, Mike abducts her. There's a crazy scene where everybody is yelling and has guns, and everyone could die if just one thing goes wrong. Then the bad guys go down, Skye gets invited to join SHIELD and everyone lives happily ever after. WAIT! This isn't Disney. That happily ever after shit doesn't exist here. Nope, they get a call for an 0-8-4 and head on to their next task, while most disagree with Coulson about bringing Skye on board (literally, cuz they have a big ass plane that gets them around everywhere). And Lola, oh don't get me started about Lola. She is beautiful. She's Coulson's car, but damn is she pretty.**for more information on how I concluded Coulson's 'death' check out: http://screenrant.com/agents-of-shield-tv-coulson-death-explained-spoilers/2/

Episode Two (10.1.13): 0-8-4. In this episode, the SHIELD team is sent to Peru to investigate an 0-8-4 (an object of unknown origin). Once they arrive, they find that it is actually a piece of Hydra technology that is powered by Tesseract energy. While in the area, they have to constantly be concerned by rebels. They eventually run into Coulson's old ally Camilla Reyes, and her crew. They team together to obtain the Hydra technology, and fight off the rebels while rushing to seek refuge on the SHIELD plane. Once on board, and in the air, Reyes and her crew betray Coulson and try to take over, and take the Hydra technology for themselves to fight of the rebels in Peru. There is a big fight on board, the plane is brutally damaged, but the SHIELD team finally learns how to work together and utilize all of their individual skills. They win, of course. And then, scene swap: Skye gets a text from someone within Rising Tide, and she confirms her alliance to them! Jerk. And then, scene swap: Coulson is being yelled at for the damage to their plane, by none other than Nick Fury! Yes, at this moment I did, in fact, jump up out of my chair screaming (my neighbors on the third floor probably heard me) "Holy shit he's back!!!!" Then I sat back down just in time to hear him tell Coulson that having Skye with them poses a great threat.

UNEMPLOYMENT IN GREECE

It is well known that especially these years of economic crisis are being the most difficult for Greece. And this situation is not going to finish in the nearest term. It needs time and effective decisions of Greece government and the European Union Commission (including all countries) help . One of the biggest problems today is unemployment. The unemployed are people able, available and willing to work at the going wage rate but cannot find a job, despite an active search for work.

2012 was a momentous year for Greece and for the Euro zone. The country managed to keep the euro and fears of the country immediate bankruptcy have receded. But is Greece over the worst? A Greek government spokesman, Simos Kedikoglou, in one interview, said: "Greece is over the worst of it. But it is not over yet. We still have things to do. Our first battle for our government was in June and the climate was very, very negative. I would say that we were practically out of the Euro zone, but we managed to win the first battle, the battle for the Euro zone. Now is the second battle, the battle against unemployment. Because unemployment in Greece has risen to levels nobody can imagine".

Perseverance

Today is October 26th which means it is just shy of 3 weeks until our last clinic day.I will then have 2 days in Kathmandu to finish any last minute errands, including an hour flight view of Mt. Everest and my last night relaxing at the Hyatt in Boudha (thank you hotels.com free nights).Until then, it is a straight dose of perseverance. The Langtang trek which took place over a week ago now was an amazing time. There was no doubt it was physically and mentally challenging. We were hoping for better weather, but there was a typhoon which hit India during our time which made for 4 days of rain and very few to no views.Luckily on the second to the last day we managed to climb above the clouds for a few hours and witness some breathtaking images. Those of you have not seen the pictures can check them out .A good time was had by all.We met some wonderful people including our porters who were with us the entire way schlepping our bags up and down and a Danish lady who ended up being a knitting teacher (Jean!!) and helped me with some tips while making my first irregular scarf.I think next time I trek that I would rather avoid going in a group. There is something to be said about taking your time and planning your own stops, but I am grateful for the adventure and knowledge I gained so I can come back.

Trekking is what the majority of people associate with when they think of Nepal.Or, they envision a bunch of people meditating on mountain tops wrapped in yak wool and baby goats gently chanting, but the interesting thing about what I am doing is that I am able to truly experience the rawness of Nepal here in the towns and villages where I am treating.I see the daily lives of Nepali people, the endless trash on the streets, the barking dogs, the kids throwing rocks at the dogs and goats, the amplified coughing of and spitting of mucus (didn't like when I lived in NYC, don't like it now) and the other uncomfortable things that we look away from with disgust. The beauty within the people here is indeed in their perseverance and their warm 'hellos' while walking down the street, whatever their pain or hardship might be.I definitely had some different expectations in mind when I first arrived, but now over the half way mark and most likely a little desensitized, I am just telling myself that this is what it is and having that respect, both for how I feel and for what life just simply is over here.

Ender's Game: Film Review

Andrew "Ender" Wiggin lives a horrible life. The world hates the saucer-eyed 10-year-old for who and what he is. The kids in his school hate him because he's brilliant, a strategic savant with the rare gift of being able to analyze any situation and see the way to achieve the most positive outcome, even if that means putting a bully in the hospital. "I wanted to win that fight, and all the fights after that," he explains coolly. His older brother hates him because, well, his older brother is a sociopath who gets his pubescent jollies by causing pain. His parents hate him because they had to get special dispensation to have a third child -- in this unspecified future, population control is in full effect -- and he doesn't seem to be living up to his potential, which, as almost every adult around Ender tells him, is to be nothing less that the savior of all mankind.

Ender's Game, like ORSON SCOTT CARD's 1985 novel upon which it's based, is a story about a boy forced to become a weapon and the old man operating the forge. If only adapter-director GAVIN HOOD's movie had been tempered with craft and care and wasn't such a blunt instrument, one that seems designed as a delivery system for CGI derring-do instead of the heartbreaker it should be. Audiences who show up, undeterred by the stink around Card's public stance against homosexuality and gay marriage, will find that this attempt by Summit to kick-start another sci-fi franchise carries none of that odor, but still falls somewhat short of inspired.
