A CUT ABOVE MOST ANIMAL STORIES
I have to admit that I avoid most books about animals because the author always seems to think I want it to end with their death. If the author has done a great job, like this one did, of making me love his animal character, I sure don't want it to end sadly.
THE CHARACTER, WRIGLEY, IS A TRULY BELIEVABLE AND LOVABLE POOCH. WHILE MY OWN BORDER COLLIE RESCUE, SAYDEE, WASN'T PARTICULARLY HAPPY I WAS SO ENGROSSED IN THE STORY, I HAPPILY LAPPED UP THE AUTHORS HOMEY QUIPS LIKE: "YOU SEE, SOMETIMES IN LIFE, THE BEST THING FOR ALL THAT AILS YOU HAS FUR AND FOUR LEGS" AND "I REALIZE SOME PEOPLE AREN'T THRILLED ABOUT HAVING DOG HAIR WHERE THEY SIT OR LAY, BUT THERE'S A REASON IT'S CALLED FURNITURE." I FINISHED THIS GREAT LITTLE BOOK IN A FEW HOURS!
I READ MANY OF THE OTHER COMMENTS ABOUT PREDICTABILITY BUT I COULDN'T AGREE. YES, PEOPLE DIE IN ASSISTED LIVING SO I GUESS THAT PART MAY BE EXPECTED. I FOUND MYSELF WISHING MY AUNT IN ASSISTED LIVING AND MY MOTHER LAYING AT HOME WITH DEMENTIA COULD ENJOY THIS SPECIAL STORY. THERE WAS DRAMA, ACCIDENTS, LOVE, FORGIVENESS AND SO MUCH MORE. DO NOT LET THOSE COMMENTS DETOUR YOU FROM READING ALL THAT AILS YOU. THEN GO HUG A DOG. I KNOW I DID.
