Choosing The Right Cat Bed

Cats are very active animals, but they sleep more than most other pet animals. With an average of 13 to 14 hours sleep daily, housecat certainly do need comfort. However, how can you provide her a sleeping comfort that she needs? The answer is quite simple - just like us! To have a comfortable sleep, we jump in our bed. Similarly, to offer comfort to your cat, provide her a good bed. Your feline friend will be glad to have a comfortable place to rest her tiny head and body. Cat beds not only offer a comfortable place to sleep, but a sense of security to the cats, as well. Even though cats are social animals, they need to have their own personal space (at least while sleeping) where they know they will be safe and left in peace. .

There are a plenty of cat bed varieties available in the market; however, before you proceed to purchase just any bed, you may need to do some observation of your feline friend. Cats do have their own bed preferences you know! Your kitty could be a ground cat or a climber. Ground cats prefer sleeping only on the ground. For such cats, a nice and comfortable floor bed will make a perfect choice. Climber cats, on the other hand, feel secure and comfortable only if they are off the ground. For them, you should look for cat bed varieties that you can lay securely above the ground, like on a window or on any furniture. Such beds will be a good idea if you happen to have pet dogs or kids in the house. Your cat will be able to spend come quality time sleeping without being bothered by dogs or kids.

Another thing that you need to make sure before purchasing a cat bed is the bed's size. Similar to cats, cat beds vary in sizes! If you have a large kitty, be sure to get her a large size bed so that she can comfortably fit in it. In case if the bed is not big enough and your cat feels awkward to fit in, she will simply skip the bed altogether. Cats also like to feel sleeping in a tight spot. Therefore, be sure not to get a very large bed. The best way to get the right size bed is by measuring your cat before making the purchase.

Next, make sure that the cat bed is washable. Cats shed and they get sick, too! You do not want your kitty sleeping in a bed that has dirt, germs, and grime in it. Letting your feline friend sleep in such bed will only make her sick again. That is the reason why you should make sure to purchase a cat bed that is washable. If the entire bed is not washable, then at least be sure that its cover is washable. Cats prefer cleanliness - they want their personal space neat.

When you get the right cat bed for your kitty, place it near her belongings i.e. her toys, her scratching post, her litter box, her food, and her water. Your feline friend will love the convenience. With the bed near her belongings, she will understand that the whole area is her personal space.

One final piece of advice: If you have more than one kitty, do not expect all of them to share one bed, even it is a big one. Cats are social, but they like to have their own space. Therefore, be sure to get a separate bed for each of your cats.
