'VERY INTOXICATED' ROB FORD WAS 'AT HIS WORST' ST. PATRICK'S DAY 2012
TORONTO - An "out of control" Rob Ford that City Hall security described as "very intoxicated" threw a wild 2012 St. Patrick's Day party inside the mayor's office.
The night included Ford knocking a junior staffer off his feet, jumping on his giant Cut the Waist challenge scale, smashing his cellphone on the wall, crying, and even throwing racial slurs and his business cards at a cab driver, according to accounts from sources who were in the office that night.A CITY HALL SECURITY E-MAIL RELEASED BY THE CITY FRIDAY BACKS UP THE SOURCES' VERSION OF EVENTS. THE E-MAIL DESCRIBES FORD AS "VERY INTOXICATED" AND WALKING AROUND THE MAIN FLOOR OF CITY HALL WITH A HALF-EMPTY BOTTLE OF BOOZE.
"This was him at his worst," one source told the Toronto Sun about the St. Patrick's Day party.
According to the e-mail from City Hall security officer Davood Mohammadi to his supervisors, Ford and his "entourage" spent a few hours in the mayor's office on the night of March 17, 2012, before going out and ending up at the Bier Markt on the Esplanade. They then returned to City Hall around 2 a.m. with the "very intoxicated" mayor.
"He had problems walking, was sweating profusely and was swearing at (Earl) Provost," the e-mail stated.
Sources said the party inside the mayor's office included a bottle of vodka, beer and bottles of wine.
Staffers found Ford looking dishevelled and drinking. At one point, Ford poured shots of vodka for the staff.
Before heading out, Ford jumped on his Cut the Waist Challenge scale outside his office and started to take off his clothes as he weighed himself, according to sources.
Sources say Ford "flailed around" on the Bier Market dance floor before being pulled off by his staff.
On the way back to City Hall, the group took a cab and two sources confirmed he hurled racial insults at the driver, swore and screamed, and threw a stack of business cards at him.
The group managed to return Ford to the mayor's office where he was "the worst he was all night," according to one source.
Ford insulted staff that were present, threw his cellphone at the wall breaking it and was acting uncontrollably emotional.
"He was crying at one point," a source said.
At one point Ford jumped out of his chair, walked up to one staffer and "with some force" knocked one staffer off his feet and clenched his fists, according to sources. Three staffers pulled Ford back.
Minutes later the mayor wandered down to the security desk around 2:30 a.m. on March 18 "with a half-empty bottle of St-Remy French Brandy," according to the security e-mail.
"He then proceeded to make comments about how 'they' stole his car and that he was going to call the police," the e-mail stated.
"I reminded the mayor that he did not drive to City Hall and that his car was safe and sound at his place of residence."
Security managed to help Ford into a cab around 2:50 a.m.
"Overall the mayor was quite pleasant towards corporate security on this night," the e-mail stated. "Though it was quite evident he was upset (with Provost) and on a couple of occasions started to yell and swear ("f-- this guy", "f-- you", etc).
"We did our best at keeping him away from the public eye due to his condition."
