American Cinematheque Plans Adult Animation Series

The American Cinematheque is planning an "Animation for Adults" series, beginning this Thursday (Jan. 9) and running through Jan. 25 at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood. This is a great opportunity for classic toon fans to catch some rarely screened gems from the likes of Hayao Miyazaki, Ralph Bakshi, Satoshi Kon, Jan Svankmajer, and Richard Linklater.

Marvel Gets 'Star Wars'

The other shoe has dropped. Marvel announced today that it will begin publishing Star Wars comics when the Dark Horse Comics license ends at the end of 2014. Executives of Marvel, Dark Horse, and Disney Publishing have released statements (see "Marvel, Dark Horse Statements on 'Star Wars'").

Naruto Shippuden' Debuts on Toonami This Weekend

Long-running and hugely popular anime series Naruto Shippuden will begin its much-anticipated return to Adult Swim's Toonami block this weekend. The first episode of the show, titled "Homecoming" is set to air at 12:30 a.m. this Sunday, (January 5) with a new episode slated to air every weekend. "Homecoming" first aired in Japan in February 2007 and the English-language version aired in the U.S. in 2009. The series is based on the second part of the Naruto manga series by Masashi Kishimoto. The series is directed by Hayato Date and produced by Studio Pierrot and TV Tokyo.

Deadpool Wedding In April

Deadpool will be married in a special oversized issue #27 which releases in April, according to writer Gerry Duggan in an interview with Nerdist. The lead-in to the wedding story will weave its way through the regular series and the Deadpool Infinite comic, a weekly digital series that launches this month. It's not necessary to read the Infinite title to follow the events in the regular series, Duggan promised.
