WAYS THAT THEY CAN EXTEND LIFE THROUGH THE LIFE SUPPORT MACHINE
They could feed the patient through a machine.
Life extension refers to an increase in maximum or average lifespan, especially in humans, by slowing down or reversing the process of ageing. Average lifespan is determined by vulnerability to accidents and age or lifestyle-related afflictions such as cancer, or cardiovascular disease. Extension of average lifespan can be achieved by good diet, exercise and avoidance of hazards such as smoking. Maximum lifespan is determined by the rate of ageing for a species inherent in its genes.
HOW DO LIFE SUPPORT MACHINES KEEP PEOPLE ALIVE?
* : providing an adequate blood supply to tissue, especially critical organs, so as to deliver oxygen to all cells and remove metabolic waste, via the perfusion of blood throughout the body.
* : the protection and maintenance of a clear passageway for gases (principally oxygen and carbon dioxide) to pass between the lungs and the atmosphere.
* : inflation and deflation of the lungs (respiration) via the airway
BACKGROUND INFORMATION ON LIFE SUPPORT MACHINES (HOW IT KEEPS PEOPLE ALIVE)
The ultimate goals of life support depend on the specific patient situation. Typically life support is used to sustain life while the underlying injury or illness is being treated or evaluated for prognosis. Life support techniques may also be used indefinitely if the underlying medical condition cannot be corrected but a reasonable quality of life can still be expected.
I also went on 'Focus' this also gave me an insight on the work life support machines put in and how they help keep people alive.
Watching this video helped me understand the type of occurrences that happen in order for someone to be put on a life support machine. This is what inspired me to make this idea as stereotypically life support machines don't add on years onto a humans life so that it gives them more time to recover and keep them alive.
