The sudden absurd increase in my sewing rate has been due to my upcoming move...and now it's upon me!This blog was developed initially to help me ask, and then answer, the questions I had as I taught myself to sew, and it has become a very cool showcase of all the skills I've learnt.
Everyone else has been posting New Year reflections and resolutions...but for me it's a reflection on what sewing has done for my life, and how it will remain a part of my life as I travel now through Australia and the US before settling in Switzerland.I don't know!
What I do know is that I have had a whirlwind year of trying everything.I tried to sew every pattern I liked, because I could, and because I had nothing else to do.That's been fun and I've learnt a lot of skills very quickly. But that's not really what sewing is about (as my luggage attests!!)As I move forward and integrate sewing into my normal life, I hope to use fewer patterns, and jump into fewer crazy projects just because I can - instead it would be nice to sew things I actually need, to sew them less frequently, with more focus and more attention to detail.Minimalism was the key word when I started sewing, but minimalism has not come into the process at all!
I hope to eventually tackle lots of modification projects. Before my last move 2 years ago, I took 3 items to a seamstress with specific modifications in mind...and she made all three items unwearable.I don't want that to happen again, and I'm slowly gaining the confidence to make sure it doesn't.
I'll return in February with work on my Elisalex and my lovely pink Peter & the Wolf Pants, not to mention a host of projects I cut and had to pack, or planned and had to pack, or etc!In the meantime I'm off to Australia for a month to surf and wear out some of my awesome me-mades.I'll try to catch a few pictures of my makes in action cause I know photography has been my weak spot sometimes.
