Ipsy October 2013 "The Art of Beauty" Review

This is my third Ipsy bag. I honestly wasn't too excited by this month's previews, but they weren't so bad that I was thinking of cancelling either. I basically went into this month pretty neutral. Here's so info about Ipsy:

The items offered in this month's bag were:

-a ZOYA NAIL POLISH

This was another month with a lot of products. I wasn't particularly against any of the products, but the range was so big it was hard to see a clear idea of what was good or wasn't. Ipsy really needs to narrow down a bit more there is just way too much stuff. It also is a lot of skincare and I am not interested in skin care products.

My package shipped on October 4th and was delivered on October 16th. That's a total of12 days to ship. The tracking code for my bag hardly ever updated, after 6 days to still said it was "processing" and didn't ever update. This isn't too bad, but the tracking is, as always, really dumb.

Here's the packaging as always:

I already knew my products, but seeing the package still makes me excited.

This month's card. I think this looks kind of creepy to be honest. The theme is on the card "The Art of Beauty". I am not all that interested in the discount codes, and most don't work for Canada.

This month's bag. I think this bag is kind of ugly and the quote is just kind of stupid. I think the last bag was a lot nicer.

Here are my items this month. The products included are: ZOYA NAIL POLISH IN "GIOVANNA", BUXOM FULL-ON LIP POLISH IN "DOLLY", SEXY HAIR BLOW DRY GEL, LA FRESH ECO-BEUTY OIL-FREE CLEANSER WIPES, and NOURISH ORGANIC DEEPLY NOURISHING COCONUT AND ARGAN BODY LOTION.

The Zoya polish was what I was most excited for in this bag. I didn't really want Giovanna because I was afraid it would be like "Valerie" from my Julep box and was looking forward more to the blue. It doesn't look like "Valerie" but I still prefer the blue.

This polish is a nice emerald-y green, with a shimmer. This polish is really gorgeous, even though I hate shimmery polishes. One coat of this polish offered good opacity, but needed more coats for sure. I did four coats, because I suck at application, two would have been fine if I had made the second coat more even, and if I hadn't chipped it after 3 coats. The polish is a little stronger smelling, in a nail polish-y way, than Julep. It is 5-free, which is nice. This stuff also dries crazy fast. I own only 1 other polish that dries this fast, and that's my Sally Hansen Insta-Dri polish. I am really pleased with this, even though I'm not a huge fan of the colour. This is a full-sized bottle worth $8.

Here is the Buxom Lip Polish. The packaging for is really cute, I like that each colour has a girl on it. This lip gloss made the classic "smacking" sound as soon as I opened it, which made me fear it would be sticky.

The colour is sort of a plum-pink colour that is pretty. It showed up as my-lips-but-sparkly when I applied it though. The formula is quite sticky and tough to apply because not a lot comes out on the doe foot and it just tugged on my lips a lot. This lip gloss also starts out as pleasantly minty and goes to full-on painful tingly after a little while. It left my whole mouth feeling minty and was kind of gross. I don't think I'll get a lot of use out of this. I think I could have forgiven this all a little if the colour looked a bit better on, and had more colour to it. This lipgloss is $23 for a full-sized, 4.45 ml product, this sample was 2 ml making it worth $10.

Here is the Sexy Hair gel. I was not too excited to be getting hair gel, because I don't really like the feeling of gel. I have tried it out, it's alright. I think it's meant to be volumizing but it really isn't much. I don't think I'll use this. A full-sized, 8.5 oz, bottle is worth $17 making this 1.7 oz sample worth $3.50.

Here are the La Fresh wipes. I wasn't too excited about this product when I saw it, because I already own make-up wipes that I like, and I've never actually seen these in stores. I tried them out to see what I thought and I actually really like these, the smell is very nice. I've used 3 of them since I received this because they're really very nice. A thirty pack of these is worth $10, this contains 10 and is worth $3.

Here is the Nourish Organic lotion. I wasn't too excited about this either. However this lotion absorbs so fast and smells SO good. It is very coconut-y so if you don't like coconut smell it won't smell good to you, but I really like it. It made my skin feel very soft as well.

The texture looks a bit odd, but it feels awesome. A full-sized 8 oz container is $12, this 1 oz container is then worth $1.50.

This month's bag, including the bag estimated at $2, was worth $28 while I paid $15. The value this month wasn't very good, most of the products were really cheap and small. There were other products, especially skin care, that were probably worth more this month. It's disappointing that there is such a range from cheap to expensive. I probably only liked about half of my bag, but I wasn't super unhappy like last month. I'll probably give it another go next month but I am really falling out of love with Ipsy.
