In Short: [Urge to protect Earth intensifies] Also, Video Games!

So with Summer out of the way and Autumn in full swing, it's time to turn my attention to games again! I may be behind more than I'd like on some of these due to Amazon being retarded with shipping (They can ship to N.Ireland within 24 hours but apparently that's "impossible" for the Republic. Such bullshit.)

FINISHED

THE WONDERFUL 101 (WIIU): Platinum Games have been on a roll this year and they're slowly becoming my favourite developer after 3 solid releases this year (Technically 2 as Anarchy Reigns came out in Japan in 2012). The Wonderful 101 is a remarkable game and will probably hit cult status now that its sales were so bad. What I'm worried about now, is if Bayonetta does not sell Platinum Games will begin to cut ties with Nintendo. This is a very likely scenario and I would hate to see Nintendo lose one of, if not best 3rd party developers.

Failing a QTE in W101 leads to quite a few hilarious scenes.

Before W101's release Kamiya mentioned that it would be a short game, understatement of the year if you ask me. You will get a solid 16 hours out of this game with 2 of those hours being dedicated to the final boss fight and aftermath which was through and through Platinum style. There were quite a few nods to the developer itself within the game, which comes at no surprise as a majority of their games will contain these little nods and references, but it was far more prominent here than previous games. I had an absolute blast playing W101, and even though on the surface it seems that it's a clusterfuck of different ideas and mechanics, when it gets down to it and you've wrapped your head around the system, it's an exceptionally original game and my game of the year hands down. I dare you NOT to have fun playing this.

KILLER IS DEAD (PS3): I raced through this game in a few days and let me tell you, it is NOT worth the 60 euros price tag. For Suda 51 fans, you will feel right at home but somewhat disappointed. Like the majority of his games, this has a lot of style. But the story flow and characters are off. Mainly Mondo, who is probably one of the most dullest characters I've encountered in a Suda 51 game and the voice acting didn't help either. He sounded equally boring in English and Japanese.

The first 2/3 of the game feel like it's missing that special "oomph" that Suda 51 brings to his games. I was ready to write this game off but I pushed through and during that last 3rd of the game it was almost like someone slapped Grasshopper in the face; the story went full retard Suda cray-zay. This is where the game completely redeems itself and you start to see his token style shine through.

It's very hard to recommend this game at the price it's going for. With the amount of content and its length this could of easily passed as a downloadable title. It's not the best game that Suda 51 has put out there but for me it contained one of the in a Grasshopper game.

FIRE EMBLEM AWAKENING (3DS): This really was the best entry in the series; the gameplay was solid, fun and challenging and the amount of content to unlock is incredible. I think the only let down here was the relationship building, it wasn't as complex as I would of liked it to be. The character's facial expressions and reactions were very limited and there were no alternative stances either, this would of brought a lot more depth to this feature if it were here, but I guess this was their first stab at a more direct approach to relationship building. Hopefully if SMT x FE sees the light of day, Atlus will teach them a few things about dating sims. I might return to this game some day, it has a ton of replay value considering the endless amount of relationship combinations.

Awakening has a huge cast of memorable characters, I hope this SMT x FE game is based around these guys.

IN PROGRESS

GRAND THEFT AUTO V (PS3): I've only played about 3 or 4 hours worth of this game, and so far it is what it is... Another GTA game... I haven't even made it to a heist yet which is supposed to be one of the biggest new features, but it's so hard not to get caught up in fucking around. I need to make some real progress here before I can write about it in length.

WIND WAKER HD (WIIU): It's been about 4 years since my last Wind Waker play through so this game came at the perfect time! I've been sitting well with a majority of the changes I have encountered thus far, but there are a few which have been annoying me. One of which is the increased rate that you get counterattack prompts, this can make defeating enemies that would usually take a few skillful slashes and side dodges to defeat a lot easier.

I can't get over how great this game looks in HD. GORGEOUS!

Another change I'm not liking is that you can move around while in first person. This was a feature in Skyward Sword that I liked but it's not welcome here. My first instinct when in first person mode is to use the left stick to aim at whatever, but now that first person aiming has been switched to the right stick and the movement to the left I unintentionally fall off the edge, which is happening more times than I'd like to admit. Wind Waker's Gamecube controls are ingrained into my mind, so it's really hard to learn otherwise.

PROJECT X ZONE (3DS): What a strange and unique battle system... It's like if a fighting game met Fire Emblem but the fighting game elements are very dumbed down. For instance you have a set of combos that consist of hitting the A button and any 1 of 4 directions on the D/circle pad. You string these attacks together to juggle the enemy for as long as possible while calling in various support characters. Things can get pretty hectic on that top screen but it's merely window-dressing. I can already feel repetitiveness in this game though I'm yet to unlock certain skills or multi-attacks which apparently mix things up a bit.

ANIMAL CROSSING: NEW LEAF (3DS): I'm working on a few themed rooms at the moment, gathering all of the stuff I need is going to take a while but when it's done, I'll do a little photo tour image set because I'm a fucking faggot like that. This game is

POKEMON Y (3DS): I haven't been this excited for a Pokemon game since the Gold/Silver remakes, the Black and White era just didn't appeal to me at all. In this 6th generation the upgrades and changes are so obvious, this move to a more 3D style has been a long time coming. My main gripes with this game so far have been the overworld movements which feel very clunky and a more sluggish than usual battle system. I guess making this switch to 3D was going to slow things down somewhat in the battle department. However, there are some features that have made a return here that I am very happy about. First, the R=A option, which is so bloody handy, and the inventory system, which has returned to a style more similar to the Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald era. I'm very early on in the game right now, so haven't had the chance to check out many of the new features, but so far so good. If things continue this well it may knock Hoenn off my top spot.

Why can't we have this now? ;; December seems so far away.

KINGDOM HEARTS (PS2): This is one of the rare instances where I prefer the English voice acting over Japanese. The Japanese cast for this game has some HUGE names but when it comes down to the Disney characters, nothing can beat the classic cast. After hitting a few hurdles in the earlier boss fights and getting to grips with a somewhat chaotic battle system, I've raced through the game.

Atlantica was not as bad as people have let on, it looked lame as hell but I never got overly frustrated with it. That being said, that repetitive background music was starting to do my head in after a while.

ON HOLD

NI NO KUNI (PS3): I haven't abandoned this yet! I'm really adamant about going back to finish those massive post game quests. It's the alchemist quest that is really holding me up here. I'm relying on very low drop rates which are killing me.

DRAGONS CROWN (PS3), RAYMAN LEGENDS (WIIU) & NEW SUPER LUIGI U (WIIU): These are all coop games that I refuse to play on my own because they're damn fun with a bit of company, but ...
