From Underground to Urban to Universal: The UDM Growth Project

PROJECT OVERVIEW



This project is to focus on identifying and finding the gaps to fill to maintain the global competitiveness of the urban dance music (UDM) genre. The urban dance music genre comprised of electronic dance music created in inner city communities from San Juan to New York to Chicago to Detroit to Toronto to Baltimore to Miami to Atlanta to London and more. The underlying problem of urban dance music is no different than other forms of early Black music genre such as blues and bop and ragtime was the lack of industry establishments to compensate contributors and sustain an industry. House music for example, has an estimated opportunity loss of over $1 billion dollars that never made it to the house music artists and DJs who promoted the genre.




The goal of this project is to help establish a technology platform, marketing and supply chain framework in place to establish an economic system for the urban dance music industry. This will involve some serious heavy duty work but our goal is to make it at least work in progress to demonstrate a real effort with the objective to succeed. We intend to work with and consult with UDM key figures to understand the challenges and propose solutions to make sure artists are paid for performance, a system is in place to promote to their target audience as well as a supply chain to generate revenue.



So we intend to look at next generation technology to help create a broadcast media to reach as many potential members of the UDM genre as possible. Also work with media industry standards to create pay scales and help artists establish their works to receive fair compensation. In addition, work in helping establish promoters and festival producers as well as a whole style to drive a cultural movement behind UDM. We will establish Atlanta, Georgia as the basecamp for the center of innovation with the goal to replicate models and discovery to as many urban areas as possible.



The benefit of maturing the UDM scene is extremely too big to ignore. Having an established UDM scene in an urban area create jobs, create businesses and improves the quality of life with fashion and style reflective of the culture in a positive format. UDM can drive growth in emerging cities worldwide including China creating mega opportunity. By having UDM drive the growth worldwide, it can present a positive face for other urban professionals to enter growth markets in these emerging economies.
