An X-FORCE Movie in the Works???

Hello Schmoeville!

It appears that 20th century Fox is getting in to the superhero team-up game as well. Not that X-Men isn't already, technically, a team up. But that doesn't mean the X-Men don't spin off into some other titles, teaming up with other mutants creating new titles - much like Iron Man and Captain America spun off into a team-up ultimately creating the Avengers. Same deal here.

And so, is reporting that an X-Force movie might now be in the cards for 20th Century Fox. And for those of you unfamiliar with X-Force, here's description:

THE GROUP WAS A NEW INCARNATION OF THE 1980S TEAM, THE NEW MUTANTS. LED BY THE MUTANT CABLE, X-FORCE WAS MORE MILITANT AND AGGRESSIVE THAN THE X-MEN. THE X-FORCE SERIES WAS SUCCESSFUL IN THE EARLY 1990S, BUT ITS POPULARITY WANED AFTER LIEFELD LEFT, CAUSING MARVEL TO IMPLEMENT SEVERAL REFORMS TO THE TITLE FROM 1995 UNTIL 2001 WITH VARYING DEGREES OF SUCCESS.

I remember this run of X-Force and I dug it. So the idea of it being spun off into a new franchise a' la' The Avengers is a no brainer. Here's what X-MEN FILMS has to say:

THE "X-MEN" FILM IS BEING DEVELOPED AT 20TH CENTURY FOX, AND JUST THREE MONTHS AGO, THE STUDIO REGISTERED IT'S FUTURE WEBSITE ADDRESS AT X-FORCEMOVIE.COM. THIS IS USUALLY HOW FUTURE X-MEN FILM TITLES END UP GETTING LEAKED. GOING OFF PREVIOUS TALKS WITH "X-FORCE" CO-CREATOR ROB LIEFELD AND PRODUCER LAUREN SHULER DONNER, THINGS MAY BE LOOKING GOOD FOR CABLE TO BE BROUGHT INTO THE MIX.

They go on saying:

LAST YEAR, MARVEL CONSULTANT MARK MILLAR "X-FORCE" HAPPENING, SAYING

"YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER THAT FOX GRABBED THE X-MEN BACK IN THE '90S BECAUSE IT WAS THE BIGGEST FRANCHISE IN THE WORLD. SO X-FORCE OR CABLE OR DEADPOOL -- ALL THESE AMAZING CHARACTERS ARE THINGS WE HAVEN'T REALLY GOTTEN TO YET. 'X-FORCE' #1 WAS THE SECOND BIGGEST BOOK OF ALL TIME BEHIND JIM LEE'S 'X-MEN' #1, SO THERE'S AN IMMEDIATE BRAND RECOGNITION TO THAT STUFF AND A BUILD IN FANBASE. YOU GO TO ANY CONVENTION IN THE WORLD, AND YOU'LL SEE 20 PEOPLE DRESSED AS DEADPOOL. IN A LOT OF WAYS, THESE ARE MARVEL'S COOLEST CHARACTERS, SO I WANT TO REMIND PEOPLE OF THAT AND BUILD ON WHAT WE ALREADY HAVE. I THINK THERE'S A GREAT FOUNDATION, AND JUST FROM BASIC CONVERSATIONS, WE'VE COME UP WITH TEN MOVIES WE COULD DO. THESE THINGS COST $150 MILLION EACH TO MAKE, SO WE HAVE TO PICK AND CHOOSE WHAT WE WANT TO DO."

And so, if all this turns out to be true, it looks like Comic-Con and the X-Men: Days of Future Past panel might be introducing X-Force as well. After all, Days of Future Past has alreadyhaving Bishop in the mix (a time traveling mutant that most likely has something major to do with the movie) and since Bishop is a part of X-Force, this seems like a very real, very legit possibility.

What do you think, Schmoeville? Do you like the idea of a new X-Men title coming to a theatre near you? Do you like that it could possibly be X-Force? Sound off with your thoughts below! Let's talk mutants, Schmoeville!
