2Fantasista Doll Ep2 Review

#02

Rather late of a review - have been out quite often lately.

Episode two revolves the foundation of Suzume as a card master while she is train to summon the dolls in combat ready status. Still being unfamiliar and naive with the situation placed, Suzume was feeling ignorant towards the reason for which she had to obey the strict orders of Sasara when Suzume was her master.

Sasara also caught Suzume being untruthful towards the people around her, hurting them while protecting herself. Suzume was mad at how Sasara told her off but wasn't able to prove her wrong.

Due to their opposing opinion, they started a conflict and Suzume was at her limits. She decides to withdraw her ownership of the dolls.

While in rage, Sasara was on the verge of leaving Suzume even though her one and only duty was to protect her master with no exceptions. She agreed to break the contract without second thought. Sasara told Suzume to return her portable to the research facility where they belonged. Sasara headed over right away. The other dolls were devastated about the decision but wasn't disobeying the plan of Suzume. They can only follow suit.

Suzume reached the facility and was ambushed by other Fantasista dolls and being trapped. Madeleine suggest Suzume to summon them to assist her despite knowing that they are about to be disposed by Suzume. Katia, Shimeji, Akari and Madeleine came to protect Suzume in different full battle suit without hesitation - fulfilling their role till the end for their master - Suzume.

They were thoroughly annihilated by the ambush team that employed trap cards which back-summoned all of Suzume's dolls. The dolls then impose offensive moves to Suzume and when the strike was about to hit Suzume, Sasara came in between with her full battle suit equipped and ready to fight. Suzume was surprised by her appearance while Sasara continued to serve her duty to protect her master.

They both came to an agreement when they both understand their mistakes - Suzume came out with a plan to get them out of danger. They set traps and with Sasara's sword skills she manage to destroy the entire group of ambush dolls. They patch up after the incident and return back home together after they made their way to the president office and obtain a wing card as a reward by Rafflesia no Kimi.

Upon reaching home, Suzume and Sasara encountered classmate - Manai the card club president who wants to challenge Suzume instead - with Fantasista Dolls.

I was delighted to see the plot entering conflict scenarios and at that moment I was going through tons of plot opportunities the episode could went with, I just love to do that while watching these genre of plots. It was all good until the climax when it was done in average standards (the kind of generic plot twist that I am apparently tired of watching.)

The feeling of disappointment was over the top I wanted to cry. Not even the plot twist was touching to feel soft. The climax could have been much positively extreme with an uncommon route that the audience would never expect to see for a second episode hurdle. It felt just like any other average series's second episode at this point. Rationality? Pretty low as the character's impression changed so greatly after a single incident that wasn't with great influence to their decision.

Let's assume that Suzume is already pissed about being master of Fantasista dolls that caused her trouble and while withdrawing she gets into more life endanger trouble like what we saw in episode two climax - I will bloody hell curse for that kind of luck I have if I was Suzume. I may appear to be too much of particular into the plot but it is just too hard to neglect it. Maybe I'm just not the target audience that is so fussy about such details.

The episode ended off better than I anticipated while watching, where the next rival appeared before Suzume and surprisingly it was someone closer than imagined, Manai the card club president whom tried to recruit Suzume. It negated my negative thoughts of the episode right away with that sudden progression of plot for cliff hanger.
