frozen in time

it is officially the first day of fall and this morning to celebrate i ordered a rail of pumpkin spice coffee! nothing says fall like 85 degrees and humid, right? let me tell you how fun it has been to run in that...okay, well i'm out of ways to tell you how fun it is because it is actually no fun at all, but i'm getting it done anyway. back to our regularly scheduled september blog business...

{hear} it is always wonderful to hear from a friend, but it is particularly wonderful to hear from a friend through snail mail. i honestly love nothing more than getting cards and packages in the mail andreally blew me away with this box of love. i've wanted to try the pb&j bars from tj's for a while but the trader joe's here is completely inconvenient to where i live so i haven't made it there. she sent me a box filled with goodies including the bar i've been eyeing and some other peanut buttery/pecan filled treats. she knows me very well. the best part was the card though - really, don't underestimate the power of a hand-written note. i've always believed that.

{yes} saying yes to social events during the week wasn't always something i was the best at. i went through a phase where i basically refused to go out to dinner or do anything on the weeknights because i was busy working out or i wanted to cook my own food, etc. etc. gosh, i was a lot of fun, wasn't i? glad that is over. since moving to houston, i've been saying yes whenever i have the chance and this week's "yes" was to a girls' night/dinner with some co-workers. it was great to have some wine and brownies (my last minute addition of store bought chocolate chip cookies were skipped in favor of homemade ghirardelli brownies. cannot imagine why...)

{frozen} if i could have frozen this moment in time i would have. my dad was in new jersey this week for a work conference so he was an hour ahead of me. usually when i'm having breakfast my parents are still asleep and i have gotten serious flack for having the nerve to text them before they have to get up, so it was really special for me to spend my breakfast time texting with my dad. we had a virtual coffee date and i loved every moment of it. i can't wait to see my parents next weekend for my cousin's wedding and make it a real coffee date.

{on track} now thathas officially rocked her marathon, i can commence training for houston since she's passed the torch to me! i got some new shoes to celebrate (let's be honest - my dad sent me some new shoes to celebrate). i wore asics in the chicago marathon. i pretty much bounce back and forth between brooks and asics, so when deciding which to wear for houston, i opted for the familiar. plus how glorious are the colors? i'm going to have to start shopping around for an outfit to go with them.clearly race day attire is as important as any other parts of marathon training.

i'm going to write a post about how training has been for me in a few weeks but as of right now, a quick blurb...i am back loving running. i feel kind of guilty because i am technically doing best body bootcamp, but right now all i want to do is run. this is interesting because if you had asked me two months ago, i wanted nothing to do with it. my base building plan got me back into the swing of running so i'm tabling bootcamp for the most part right now. i'm trying to still incorporate 2 days of strength training a week but i'm not stressing about the fact that i'm failing at it. more importantly, i'm focusing on getting all my miles in safely and i know i need to focus on stretching so that'll be priority number two. strength hopefully won't disappear completely but if it does, i know i'll get back to it in january post-marathon when i am all runned out. i'll be saving the workouts from tina because they look phenomenal and i know i'll want to go through them when i'm feeling lifting again.
