Image Round-Up

The Image Round Up column aims to get some words down on Image Comics book published for the week. This weeks reviews are handled by Hansel Moreno. I'll be dropping non-spoilery reviews the day before the books are available so you can best make up your mind on what to buy tomorrow. We offer this service because Image has been putting out some amazing content lately and it will be nice to shine a light on every single title they produce. This week I take a look at LAZARUS #3, MIND THE GAP #13, MORNING GLORIES #30, SECRET #3, SEX #6, SKULLKICKERS #24, SUPER DINOSAUR #20, and THINK TANK #9

LAZARUS #3

MICHAEL LARK and GREG RUCKA take us to the far flung future where a few extremely wealthy families control the world. Those who serve them are fed and cared for, the rest left to fend for themselves in the waste.



The Carlyle and Morray families meet to circumvent war in the third installment of LAZARUS: FAMILY. The tension is rising as the devious Carlyle children plot against their family and their protector.



After three issues the team has not let up on the quality of this book. Themes of family and trust perpetuate this book along with the mystery of Forever, the Carlyle's Lazarus (Family protector/guardian).I'm hooked.



VERDICT: MUST READ!



MORNING GLORIES #30

SECRET #3

SECRET #2 came out June 6th 2012. I dusted off (just turning a phrase people, my books are bagged and boarded) my first two issues and got back into RYAN BODENHEIM'S and JONATHAN HICKMAN'S SECRET.



With more than a year gap between issues I was a little lost but still intrigued.



Ryan and MICHAEL GARLAND are stellar in this issue. I'm not sure how far ago this was drawn but not only is the art above par the colors are exquisite.



This issue builds on the previous two but doesn't work well as a single, stand alone story. If you are just getting in to the series try to find the previous two, i'm sure comixology has them, or be lost in a myriad of questions.



I hope Ryan, Michael and Jonathan can get their story out.



VERDICT: CHECK IT.



SKULLKICKERS #24



Story by Jim Zubkavich, Ron Marz, Adam Warren, and Todd Dezado

Tired with his own #1 remake marketing scheme plan, JIM ZUB has decided to go the prequel route for SKULLKICKERS: BEFORE SKULLKICKERS.



The history of Skullkickers is revealed through four new tavern tales that various talent from the comic industry join the stalwart Jim Zub and EDWIN HUANG.



In the spirit of the previous Tavern Tales, Before Skullkickers is hilarious with precious plot nuggets sprinkled here and there.



VERDICT: MUST READ!



SUPER DINOSAUR #20

I have four words about this weeks SUPER DINOSAUR: T-Rex Ninja Stealth Gear.



JASON HOWARD and ROBERT KIRKMAN keep this comic rolling with fun action (not too violent), well paced plot reveals and heart warming scenes.



Twenty issues in and I'm still excited and surprised when an established character shows a new side. With Kirkman I always question if the turns are well meant or a well laid layer of deception to be peeled away later. This may be a discussion better saved for INVINCIBLE or THE WALKING DEAD.



I hope the fun and excitement continue front and center for this kid-friendly all-ages comic.



VERDICT: CHECK IT.

Kicking off it's third arc with intense action THINK TANK is beyond edge of your seat suspense. In Volume Two: GENETICS Dr. David Loren created a designer virus to kill specific groups of people. Volume Three: OUTBREAK pits Loren against other scientist who can reverse engineer his creation.



MATT HAWKINS blurs the edge for military science fiction and reality. The fiction is as scary as the non fiction.



RAHSAN EKEDAL beautifully draws the diverse cast and various military weaponry and vehicles.



This title has been a steady chess game between Loren and his military compound babysitters. This third arc has drastically changed the situation for Loren in a single issue. I cannot wait to see where the story goes!



VERDICT: MUST READ!
